Salem Animal Rescue League (SARL) Fund Giving

As the economy of the nation has changed so have the giving habits of the American families. Contributors, now more than ever, are looking at charitable giving as a way to leave a legacy to the community, a way to teach their children the importance of giving back, and supporting the basic American value of caring for the less fortunate. Charitable giving has always been an individual expression of support for what is important to each contributor. We at the Salem Animal Rescue League understand that charitable giving is a very personal decision. In order to facilitate this choice we have outlined several of our SARL funds which will allow you, as a potential contributor to direct your gift to a specific aspect of animal welfare.

Did you ever wonder what happens to stray animals that become injured or ill? Who cares for the dog or cat hit by a car and left by the side of the road? Sadly the answer most of the time is no one. This is the story of a cat named Tulip who changed things for many of these unfortunate animals.

Found by the side of the road, the critically injured little cat would have been another statistic if a kind stranger had not intervened. Taken to a local veterinary clinic, there she languished for three days, untreated because nobody came forward to pay for her care, until she came to the attention of the Salem Animal Rescue League. The League took ownership of her and brought her to Dr. Tim Butterfield one of our veterinary partners. Out of immediate danger and in an experienced and loving foster home she began to flourish. The newly named Tulip was reunited with her rescuer, the kind woman who had found her by the side of the road and was now ready to provide her with a loving home.

The Tulip Medical Emergency Fund was started with funds donated by the public in light of Tulip's sad story. The League designed this special fund to be used for any animal in immediate need of medical care. Currently in its fifth year, this fund has provided emergency medical care for the many animals that come to our door in need. Most recently Button's the tiny dog who lost her eye through sever neglect, and Tica who could not stand because of an untreated injury.

spay neuter fund Spay and Neuter Fund

The Spay and Neuter Fund has been very successful in assisting us with our 100% spay neuter policy for SARL animals and the animals in our surrounding communities. This fund has allowed the League to be in the forefront of animal health care in New England. SARL was among the first in the state to spay and neuter all animals in our shelter care. This has expanded to include animals belonging to individuals who can not afford to have their animals neutered and feral animals. Since the advent of this program, we have seen a marked drop in the number of unwanted litters. It has also improved the quality and length of life for the individual animals.

general fund General Fund

The General Fund covers many of the necessities of the shelter such as dog and cat specialty foods and litter, cleaning supplies, medical supplies, maintenance of our buildings, electrical and heating and all the cost associated with the day to day operations of our shelter.  This fund essentially keeps our doors open.

safe home safe pet Safe Home Safe Pet Fund

This program is designed to help people and their companion animals in time of crisis. Safe Home Safe Pet was established to aid victims of domestic violence by providing shelter and medical aid to their pets while the victim struggles to escape their abuser and regain their life. The Salem Animal Rescue League provides a safe harbor for these animals thus allowing the client, through specific guidelines, to keep their pets as they reestablish their lives.

Since its founding, this fund has grown to include victims of foreclosure, and as an aid to our servicemen and women being deployed. We are listed in a national and regional directory for our work in this area of domestic violence prevention.

capital campaign Capital Giving Fund

The Salem Animal Rescue League Capital Giving Fund Campaign for the Ronald R. Kimball Family Farm was launched on November 30 2007.  This Fund was inaugurated through the generosity of Ronald R. Kimball, a long time friend of SARL. In 2002, SARL was notified that it would have to vacate its present site because of a proposed expansion of interstate 95. Faced with the daunting task of finding a new home, Mr. Kimball financed the purchase of our new property at Brady Ave in Salem, NH thus securing our future.

To date the Salem Animal Rescue League has received approval of our site plan and building plans have been submitted for approval.  The total project is a two phase plan of construction.  Including the purchase of the farm, the project will be at a total cost of $3,000,000. Financing options for the shelter are being researched and $500,000 in gifts and pledges are in place for a total of $1,000,000 including the purchase of the Ronald R. Kimball Family Farm.

This fund provides the unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for future generations with a named gift for the project.  Many of the naming opportunities have been filled however many more remain for you or your loved ones to create your own legacy.
