Ever wonder what happens to stray animals that become injured or ill? Who cares for the dog or cat hit by a car and left by the side of the road? Sadly the answer most of the time is no one. This is the story of a cat named Tulip who changed things for many of these unfortunate animals.

Found by the side of the road, the critically injured little cat would have been another statistic if a kind stranger had not intervened. Taken to a local veterinary clinic, there she languished for three days, untreated because nobody came forward to pay for her care. Until she came to the attention of the Salem Animal Rescue League. The League took ownership of her and brought her to Dr. Tim Butterfield one of our veterinary partners. Out of immediate danger and in an experienced and loving foster home she began to flourish. The newly named Tulip was reunited with her rescuer, the kind woman who had found her by the side of the road and was now ready to provide her with a loving home.

The Tulip Medical Emergency Fund was started with funds donated by the public in light of Tulip's sad story. The League designed this special fund to be used for any animal in immediate need of medical care. Currently in it's sixth year, this fund has provided emergency medical care for the many animals that come to our door in need. Last year some of the animals we treated were Buttons the tiny senior dog who lost her eye due to severe neglect, Willow (the kitty) who was attacked by an unknown animal and Kamali who came to us with a broken leg from an untreated injury. This year we helped Valentine recover from a broken leg, Chance & Dutchess recover from a severe case of kennel cough and Freeway, a gentle senior boy who had a severe ear condition which almost closed his ear canals. With your contribution we can continue to help these animals who need us to survive. Please consider donating to the Tulip Medical Care Fund . Thank you.
